Code Blue — Lockdown

When to use: Threat inside the building, violent person, or incident commander orders shelter-in-place.

Steps

1. Trigger Code Blue — Alert Mobile, armed Alert Fob (button 2), or IC delegate.
2. Call 911 if not already in progress.
3. Everyone: behind locked doors if possible; lights off; phones silent; away from windows and doors.
4. Do not gather in lobby or open areas. Do not evacuate unless IC or law enforcement directs.
5. Nursery: lock suite; adults between children and door.
6. Pulpit / lobby: stop movement; short calm instruction only.
7. All clear only when IC confirms with law enforcement / internal sweep as needed.

Everyone

• Locks — lock door if you can; barricade only if trained to do so.
• Lights off — if safe and practical.
• Silence — phones on silent; no hallway traffic.
• Stay — remain until official all clear.

Teachers & classroom leads

• Lock door; account for every student.
• Keep children quiet and away from windows.
• Do not open the door for anyone except law enforcement or verified IC.

Nursery

• Lock suite immediately.
• Keep children calm; do not open for unknown persons until all clear.

Pulpit / worship lead

• Stop service; one sentence: “We are in lockdown — stay in your seats, teachers secure your rooms.”
• If Blue is playing, do not tell everyone to exit unless IC overrides.

If the situation changes

Only IC (or backup) should switch codes. Often: All clear first, then Code Red if evacuation is ordered.
